Rev. Wilfredo T. Comellas, 49, a native of Havana, Cuba, and resident of Lockport, La., died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013.


Rev. Comellas graduated from Saint John’s University in New York in 1998 and completed his studies for the priesthood at Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2003. In 2010 he requested permission to serve in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux and served as chaplain of the Most Blessed Sacrament Faith Community in Gibson, La. In 2011 he began teaching theology at Holy Savior School in Lockport and was instrumental in establishing the Latin mass congregation at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Lacombe, La.

He is survived by his father, Wilfredo Comellas Sr.; and brother, Leo Comellas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Justa Comellas.


The wake will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Chapel of the Dominican Monastery of the Heart of Jesus in Lockport and continue through the night. A Latin Requiem Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Holy Savior Church in Lockport with a procession to the cemetery to follow. (Samart-Mothe)
