William Herbert “Blue” Johnson, 84, a native of Terrebonne Parish, La., and a resident of Gibson, La., died Thursday, June 11.

He is survived by his wife, Velina Matthews Johnson; sons, Herbert Johnson of Stone Mountain, Ga., Payton Johnson Sr., Conis Johnson, Barry Johnson Sr., Henry Johnson, Horace (Betty) Johnson and Raynard Johnson all of Gibson; daughters, Gwendolyn Johnson, Beverly Ann (Thaddeus Sr.) Alvis, Zenobia (Henry) Thomas, and Zeboria (Glenn Sr.) Short, all of Gibson; sisters, Margaret Brown of Houma, La., and Rose Lee Johnson of Gibson; brother, Earl Johnson Jr. of Humble, Texas; sisters-in-law, Doris Mitchell, Rose Johnson, Sandra Johnson and Amanda Johnson; brother-in-law, David Brown; 32 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Johnson Sr. and Zenobia Hannibal Johnson; daughter, Gerry Lee Jonson; son, Michael James Johnson; brothers, Eldredge Thomas Johnson, Johnell Johnson, Arlington A.D. Johnson, Lenist Johnson Sr. and Sheffied Johnson; sisters, Constance J. William, Emelda J. Cross, Mercedes Slader, Bertha J. Matthews and Beverly J. Allen; father-in-law, Andrew Matthews; mother-in-law, Ella C. Matthews; grandsons, Farenti Johnson and Ricky Chavis; and granddaughter, Ja’esha Johnson.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at St. James Baptist Church in Gibson with the funeral service to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
