Winnie Lapeyrouse Adams, 87, a native and resident of Chauvin, La., died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011.


Mrs. Adams was a great wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a teacher for Terrebonne Parish schools for over 35 years and a member of the Lagniappe Fair Workers, VFW, American Legion, Catholic Daughters and Ward 7 Citizens Club. She loved bingo and Pokeno, playing cards with her daughters, watching baseball and football, flowers, butterflies, family and friends. Her laugh, advice, voice, touch, presence and love will be painfully missed.


She is survived by her sons, Spencer (Eva) and Hayes Jr. (Patti) Adams; daughters, Etha (Jesse) LeCompte, Lolita Henry and Winnie Thibodeaux; 13 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayes Adams Sr.; parents, Narcisse and Fannie Lapeyrouse; sister, Etta Lapeyrouse; brothers, Iry, Lee and Thomas Lapeyrouse; and infant son, Joseph Adams.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Chauvin Funeral Home and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery. (Chauvin)
