Joseph Desire Callahan, Sr., age 73, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023. He was a native and resident of Dularge, La.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Chauvin Funeral Home Friday, December 22, 2023 from 9:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Eloi Cemetery in Dularge.

Desire is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Punch Callahan; children, Cheryl Parfait (Kelly), Janell Luke (Lou), Kim Guidroz (Kent), Joseph Callahan, Jr. (Kacey), Kelly Callahan (Dawn); grandchildren, Tiffany, Trent, Trey, Gavin, Jayda, Kadon “Tuna”, Kora, Kain, Austin, Sage, Carter, Leia, Mariah; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gary Callahan, Sterling Callahan; sister, Geraldine Liner.


Desire is preceded in death by his parents, Constant Callahan and Azalie Luke Callahan; brothers, Constant “CoCo” Callahan, Jr., Andrew Carlos, Bartholmew “Blackie” Carlos; sisters, Ella Nora Gutierrez, Dolores Rosamond.

Desire was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of the VFW Post 4752 and proudly served in the Army. Desire enjoyed fishing, playing cards and going to the casino. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
