Louis Francis Pontiff, Sr., age 91, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 1:32 p.m. He was a native and resident of Houma, LA.


Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, December 21, 2020 beginning at 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. with burial following in St. Francis de Sales #2 Cemetery.

Louis is survived by his wife of 74 years, Theresa Margaret Daigle Pontiff; sons, Louis F. Pontiff, Jr. and wife, Linda (Fanguy), and Keith P. Pontiff; daughter, Mary “Lisa” P. Aucoin and husband, Bryan all of Houma. Grandchildren, Vickie P. Guidry and husband, Craig, Louis “Bubba” Pontiff, III and wife, Jennifer (Ponson), Donald “Donnie” Pontiff and fiancé, Tammy Wright. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Matthew Guidry and wife, Jessica (Bergeron), Brittany G. Benton and husband, Esco IV, Nathan Pontiff, Ella J. Pontiff, Riley J. Pontiff, Maddux V. Pontiff, Layla Wright, and great-great-grandchildren, Cole A. Guidry, and Brandt W. Guidry.

Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Jean and Henrietta Augusta Molaison Pontiff; son, Infant Pontiff; brothers, Percy Pontiff, Junius C. Pontiff Sr. and wife, Bernice (Labit); sisters, Bessie P. Babin and husband, Murphy, and Rita Pontiff.


Louis was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral and St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. He was a retired operations manager of Patterson Inspection Services. He was a longstanding member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1317 and a 3rd Degree Knight. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching LSU and Saints football, and gardening. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather known as “Old Paw.” Louis was a prankster with an outgoing personality, storyteller, and friend to many. He will be dearly missed by all whose hearts he touched.
