Mary Gaudet Lafaso, 86, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 1:12 PM. Born January 28, 1937 she was a native and resident of Thibodaux, Louisiana.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 8:30 AM until service time at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM at church. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Fran Lafaso Marek and husband Craig; son, Anthony “Tony” Lafaso and wife Alaine; grandchildren, Celeste M. Strain (Cody), Blaine Marek, J.J. Lafaso, Eli Lafaso, Leo Lafaso and Amelie Lafaso.


She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Bernard Anthony Lafaso; her parents, Eno John Gaudet, Sr. and Marie Guidry Gaudet; brothers, Eno Gaudet and Ernest Gaudet.

Mary was the first female computer programmer at McDermott. She then worked for her husband’s business, Inspection Services as bookkeeper for many years. She was also the co-owner of Printworks. She had a 50 year devotion to the St. Anne Novena and she was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Daughters for over 50 years. She was a CCD teacher for Saint Joseph Co-Cathedral for 33 years. She was a wonderful and caring wife, mother and grandmother and was loved by all, especially the many who lovingly referred to her as Nanny Mary.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Karen Hebert, Cynthia Hymel and Susie Rohilliard, and Hope Hospice who have showed such compassion and care.


In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Genevieve Catholic School or Joshua ISD Education Foundation.
