Narie Ann Picou Prosperie passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023 at the young age of 84. She was on hospice care at the home of her daughter Darlene and son in law Dr. Michael Flynn since June 22, 2023. It was an honor to have Mom with me and care for her 24/7. I am forever Grateful and Blessed for this time. She was born in Chauvin on October 21, 1939. A native of Chauvin and a resident of Houma since 2017. To Know Her Was To Truly Love Her. She was born, raised and baptized Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin most of her life until her move to Houma where she became a member of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral.

To honor Narie and celebrate her life, services will take place at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until service time. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:00 PM. Following mass, Narie will be laid to rest along side her late husband, Lloyd Paul Prosperie (September 17, 1934-June 3, 2005) at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.

Narie leaves behind her daughters, Lt. Melizia Prosperie(TPSO), and Darlene ( Dr. Michael ) Flynn; granddaughter, Layla Marie Louviere; grandson, Roger Joseph “Joey” Louviere; brothers, Lawrence Picou, Conrad Picou (MaryLee), Ray Picou (Charlene), Thomas Picou and companion Connie; three step-granddaughters, Stacy, Farah and Errin; nine step-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Narie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lloyd Paul Prosperie; parents, Clarence Picou and Gladys Duplantis Picou; sisters-in-law, Jenny Hotard Picou, Adrianna Picou and Hazel Prosperie Kiger Bernard; father and mother-in-law, Cyriac and Louise Prosperie.

Narie will be truly missed by so many. She had so many talents. She was a seamstress when her daughters were little at Ms. Rosie’s in Chauvin. She made all their clothes during their younger school days. She later attended South Louisiana Beauty College and graduated in 1972 with her Cosmetology license. She made life long friends and had the best group of loving beauticians. She worked in her private Beauty Salon next to her family home in Chauvin till 1983. She was the greatest self-made Chef. Any dish she created was delicious. She was an avid Gardener, her plants, flowers and especially her roses were always so beautiful. She took pride in all her plants and gardening. She and her husband loved Cajun dancing and traveled the state to attend festivals and followed their favorite bands, all along with close friends. They were also long ago past members of the local group, The Cajun French Music Association for many years. Mamou was one of her ultimate favorites. After Dads passing she traveled to festivals with her close girl friends. She had so many friends and was a friend to many. In the most recent years, she gained three great friends that loved her like family. Thank you to Mr. Alvin Bonvillain, Brenda Bonvillain Migues, Pat Bonvillain Dupre and Neyland. Mom loved you all and enjoyed every dinner, car ride/road trip and shopping outing. Thank you for loving our Mom.

She was a true Volunteer with a giving Heart. Mom volunteered along side her husband and parents for all the years of The Lagniappe on the bayou Fair in Chauvin. Working in the Quilt stand and watching her parents, Clarence and Gladys sing as a part of the Lagniappe on the Bayou singers along side Father Frederic Brunet. She volunteered her time for many years at the Folk Life Museum in downtown Houma. Twice a month she would prepare a meal for 20-30 plus people. Many were travelers as well as locals. They were able to enjoy her delicious meal and listen to great local Cajun bands and dance. She worked closely with Anne Picou, Debbie Martin and Juana Woodard who were her fondest friends for life. She also volunteered for the Haven Gala for many years. She enjoyed donating her time to set table clothes and pin table skirts and anything that was needed the day before and day of the Gala. She also enjoyed her night at the Gala-tasting the delicious food, mingling and dancing. She also cooked and donated her time for Downtown Live/ Live After 5, The Christmas Parade and the Rougarou Festival. She also volunteered for many years at the Southdown Museum Market Place. She loved working in the hamburger booth with all the other volunteers. The Lady Bug Ball was one of her favorites, to help with the little children. Also, Trunk A Treat for many years with friends at United Methodist Church along with Juana Woodard. There are so many to mention. She was just that willing and a helpful special lady that loved to give her time anywhere needed.
She spoke Cajun French in addition to English. Prior to a trip she and Dad took with a local group to Nova Scotia before his passing (3 week trip on Amtrak), she spent one year learning Canadian French so she could communicate with the locals while vacationing. She had a true love for Butterflies her whole life. Her love for the two poodles, Rocky & Ada, was so beautiful to witness.

We would like to thank Journey Hospice. Everyone was caring and genuine. Thank you Dr. Craig Wade for always caring for our Mother and it continued when she became a hospice patient. We are forever grateful. To the entire staff, everyone that called and all who came to care for her. Thank you to Monique, her nurse. You have a genuine caring heart and you walked this path with us and we are forever grateful. To all the nurses that at one point came to see mom, Lacey, Callie, Bailey, Joslynn, Brittany and Amy. Thank You Amy for being a life friend. Thank You for being with us Sunday when Mom started the transition till she entered eternal life. What we experienced was beautiful. You have a comforting heart and to watch you with Mom and for you to guide us through this life event was the most Beautiful moment we have ever experienced. You are a Blessing to so many. Deacon Jimmy Brunet, thank you for the many visits to pray with us and talk and allow me, Darlene, as the caregiver a time to talk and share and to also listen to your great advice. Your presence was a Blessing. To Mr. George who would call to check on us to see if we needed anything, thank you for being that friend and I loved our chats. Thank You to Collette/Social Worker for always being there. Your comforting visits were truly loved and appreciated. Thanks to Bonnie/Social Worker also for coming out to visit and check on us and listened with her caring heart.

Thank you to our family friend, Father Joey Lirette. Thank You for anointing Mom. Thank you for always being there for Mom and the family at anytime.

We would also like to extend a very big thank you to the CNA’s and sitters, Lenzie, Lexi, Taylor, Toshia, and Bre. You came into our lives when we needed you and I am forever grateful for all the loving tender care you provided.

Thank you to my sister Melizia, my BFF Vicky, my dear and loyal cousin Lacey, cousin Angelina and close friend Pat and Brenda, and Sister Miriam Mire.

As we lay Mom to rest, our hearts are full and we miss her so dearly. She is restored fully and living her new life to the fullest. We know that Mom and Dad are dancing again finally in each others arms..
