Dear Editor,

Just to clarify a portion of the story regarding the coastal zone written by Mike Nixon:

The new coastal zone boundary regulations expand permit requirements for multiple uses was incorrect.

The existing coastal use permitting regulations will apply to those areas (now) added to the coastal zone by Act 588. This act did not require any new regulations. The same coastal use permit regulations that existed prior to Act 588 – apply now.

The types of activities requiring a permit are the same as before – oil and gas activities, commercial activities, municipal activities, industrial activities, and other activities such as construction of a bulkhead, pier, pond, or boat slip.

Here is the web link for Coastal Use Permitting, http://dnr.louisiana.gov/index.cfm?md=pagebuilder&tmp=home&pid=93.
