By the response I received, readers clearly liked my recent column of slogans and who wrote them, so what follows are famous quotes by famous people. First I give the quote, then you match the speaker with it. Enjoy.

First, some general quotes:

a. “Love is the irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.”

b. “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”

c. “A kiss is a lovely trick, designed by nature, to stop words when speech becomes superfluous.

d. “Where does the family start? It starts with a young man falling love with a girl—no superior alternative has yet been found.”

e. “I am not a saint, unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps trying.”

See if you can match the following names with the above quotes:

Mark Twain

Mother Teresa

Ingrid Bergman

Sir Winston Churchill

Nelson Mandela

And some more:

f. “Our democracy is but a name. We vote. What does that means? … We choose between ‘Tweedledum’ and ‘Tweedledee.”

g. “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be.”

h. “A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.”

i. “If you do what your always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.”

j. “A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.”

For that list, choose from these names:

Helen Keller

Albert Einstein

And some quotes about love:

k. “Falling in love is not at all the most stupid thing that people do but gravitation cannot be held responsible for it.”

l. “We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”

m. “In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love.”

n. “What I feel for you seems less of earth and more of a cloudless heaven.”

o. “”To say ‘I love you’ one must first be able to say the ‘I.'”

Choose from:

Albert Einstein

Dr. Seuss

Mother Teresa

Victor Hugo

Ayn Rand

And some random but well known quotes, all from the same person:

“Fish and visitors stink after three days.

“To err is human, to repent divine, to persist devilish.”

“Wish not so much to live long, as live well.”

“No gains without pains.”

“Eat to live; live not to eat.”

“He that lieth down with dogs, shall rise up with fleas.”

“Haste makes Waste.”

“Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”

“Little strokes fell great oaks.”

“Every man for Himself, etc.”

The author of this list? The one and only Poor Richard, a.k.a., Ben Franklin.

The authors of the other quotes? They are listed in correct order from first to last.
