The Jack Phillips Jr. era ended this week for the H.L. Bourgeois football program.

It comes to a close before the coach ever officially coached a game with the Braves.

Sources told the Tri-Parish Times on Thursday afternoon that Phillips was being replaced as the team’s head coach.

School administration confirmed the move on Friday morning, but declined comment besides saying that the team was “moving forward in a new direction.”

Phillips’ termination marks the end of a less than five-month reign as the team’s head coach.

The former Bayou Bucks’ head coach was hired in mid-December to replace former coach Ben Powell, who resigned in the middle of last season.

Phillips was chosen over five candidates who applied for the job.

Since his hire, Phillips had moved to the school and was teaching environmental science and football’s weights and conditioning class.

The school has officially advertised its job on the LHSAA’s website as available – a new search will take place to find Phillips’ replacement.

This season is a first in school history, as the Braves are set to welcome ninth graders for the first year.
