A local group is trying to keep Terrebonne pollution-free as the area continues to grow.

Lowe’s Community Development Grant, Keep America Beautiful and Keep Terrebonne Beautiful have partnered to create ‘Adopt-a-Spot’, a project which aims to curb parish pollution.

The project aims to keep the parish clean so that citizens can “keep the quality of life we cherish so much.”

“This is more than an anti-litter campaign,” a release from the project states. “This is a broad-based initiative by families, neighbors, businesses, schools, churches and other groups. It’s a great activity for families and neighbors and it’s a way to teach citizenship and responsibility.”

To participate in ‘Adopt-a-Spot,’ individuals or groups must sign an adoption contract for the portion of a local street, highway or public space they wish to adopt.

Participants can choose the area for convenience.

From there, individuals have to commit to organize and participate in at least four cleanup events in the adopted area over the next two years.

The only requirement is that every adoption team must have at least one adult for every three children who are under the age of 14.

From there, Keep Terrebonne Beautiful will do the rest to make it happen.

The organization will create a to-do list with every adoption team and will make sure that they have necessary supplies for cleanup events – bags, safety vests and grabbers.

The organization will also record and track litter data to document the group’s efforts throughout the two-year contract period.

At the end, signs will be installed acknowledging the group’s involvement in keeping the neighborhood litter-free.
