The Louisiana High School Athletic Association has set a meeting date to for principals to vote on a ‘compromise plan’ that aims to guarantee the association’s future.

The LHSAA announced yesterday afternoon that it will hold a meeting on June 8 at 11 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baton Rouge for a principal’s vote on the new plan, which would end the public/private split in Class 5A and 4A, and would govern Class 3A, 2A, 1A, B and C into a rural/urban structure.

The plan is formally called the ‘Hybrid-Non-Discriminatory Plan’, and the LHSAA’s Executive Committee voted by a one-vote margin last week to allow the special meeting to take place.

If passed, the compromise plan will be in effect for the 2016-17 school year, beginning with the upcoming football season.

If not, the LHSAA will keep the expanded public/private split it voted upon in January at its annual convention.

If the latter occurs, private schools have already announced that they are likely to form their own league, which would also begin play in 2016-17.
