Running events tout fun, good health


Looking to put a little fun into run?


Then you might want to check out the American Heart Association’s 32nd annual Over and Under 5K Tunnel Run on Saturday, March 8.

The race begins at the Houma Municipal Auditorium, 800 Verret Street. Festivities start at 3 p.m. with a children’s Fun Run and the Over and Under 5K Tunnel Run kicks off at 4 p.m.


The afternoon will include music and concessions, and educational booths about heart disease will be on site as well.

The following week, Raceland Elementary School will hold its eighth annual 5-K Fun Run for Education (on Saturday, March 15), on the school grounds (3759 Hwy. 308 in Raceland).


A registration fee of $15 includes participation, T-shirt, refreshments, prizes to the top finishers and free giveaways. A fee of $10 includes all of these things, sans T-shirt.


Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the race follows at 9. Race forms are available at Raceland Upper Elementary School and area businesses.

Proceeds from the race will be used to purchase instructional and supplemental materials for Raceland Elementary Students.

Verdin defeats Folse by

first-round TKO

Justin “Ironman” Verdin protected his unblemished record by defeating Ricky “The Pittbull” Folse by earning a TKO at the 2:16 mark of the fist round as part of “Civil War in the (Houma-Terrebonne) Civic Center” Saturday.

With the win, Verdin improved to 5-0 and took home the Louisiana Cruiserweight Title.

It also settled a feud that had raged between the two pugilists for more than two-and-a-half years.

Celebrity Golf Tourney

The 21st Annual LSU Fighting Tigers Celebrity Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Bayou Bengal Booster Club, will be held Friday, April 18, at the Ellendale Country Club in Houma.

The 18-hole, five-man team scramble will have shotgun starts at 7:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

Entry fee is $850 per team or $210 per player – (the mulligan has been added in the entry fee in addition to the golf cart, green fees, lunch, beer, and soft drinks on the course).

Checks made payable to Bayou Bengal Booster Club, Inc. can be mailed to Eddie Pullaro, 1054 West Tunnel Blvd., Houma, LA 70360.
