Four local athletes sign letter of intent

Four area athletes recent signed letters of intent to participate in their given sport on a collegiate level. In track and field, Vandebilt Catholic’s Alex Breaux and South Lafourche’s Brent Adams signed with University of Louisiana Lafayette. In volleyball, former Terrebonne High teammates Kamyle Lowndes and Nira Stewart signed to play at Southern University.

Alex Breaux (UL-Lafayette)


• High School: Vandebilt Catholic


• Sport: Track and Field; Cross Country

• Recent Accomplishments: 2007 Individual State Champion in Class 4A 3,200 meter run; 2006 Class 4A Cross Country Champion


• Notes: Breaux turned down scholarship offers from major schools LSU, Duke and University of Southern California to stay in-state.


Brent Adams (UL-Lafayette)

• High School: South Lafourche


• Sport: Track and Field (High Jump)


• Recent Accomplishments: 2007 Individual State Champion on Class 5A high jump (6-feet, 6-inches)

• Notes: Earlier in the season, Adams cleared a jump of 6-feet, 8-inches.

Kamyle Lowndes( Southern)

• High School: Terrebonne High School

• Sports: Volleyball (Middle-Hitter)

• Recent Accomplishments: 2007 District 6-I MVP; Helped lead Terrebonne to a District 6-I title, and a trip to the Pontchartrain Center for the State Volleyball Tournament.

Nira Stewart (Southern)

• High School: Terrebonne High School

• Sport: Volleyball (Setter)

• Recent Accomplishments: 2007 First-Team District 6-I; Helped Terrebone to a District 6-I title, and a trip to the Pontchartrain Center for the State Volleyball Tournament.
