College football’s much-anticipated National Signing Day is still seven days away.

But one Tri-parish standouts already knows where home will be for the next four years.

Central Catholic standout Lloyd Grogan announced his collegiate commitment last Sunday, pledging to Louisiana Tech.

The Eagles’ safety/linebacker landed on the landscape of colleges across the country after what has been a dominant career.

Standing 6 feet 1 inch, Grogan recorded 105 tackles, including 23 tackles for a loss, eight sacks and two interceptions as a junior for the Eagles.

He followed up those numbers by being one of the unquestioned leaders of the Eagles during their run to the Class 1A State Quarterfinals in 2011.

“Lloyd’s a good kid,” Central Catholic football coach David Fuhrer said. “He’s one of those guys that any program can benefit from having around.”

Height dictates Grogan can be a linebacker at the next level. His quickness and slender build says he has the option to be a safety.

Either one is possible, according to Fuhrer, who said his athlete is one of the “hungriest” players he’s ever coached.

“The word that comes to mind when you talk about Lloyd is driven,” Fuhrer said. “He sets goals in his career in terms of becoming a better student, a better athlete and getting a scholarship to get into college. He’s accomplished all of those goals and it’s amazing that he’ll be able to sign a scholarship.”

Fuhrer said because of Grogan’s determination, he was always around the football.

Once near the action, his athleticism almost always enables him to make a play. The coach said Grogan has posted a 4.5-second 40-yard dash time. He also is a great leaper.

“He’s [great] in basketball and he came out for track last year and he made it to the state meet and came out third in the long jump,” Fuhrer said. “He’s just one of those kids that has great ability to make things happen. Lloyd’s a great athlete.”

Grogan has committed to the Bulldogs, but Fuhrer warned that his recruitment may not be over.

The coach said Grogan has collected scholarship offers from programs such as Baylor, Georgia Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and Nebraska throughout his recruitment.

Fuhrer added that several of those schools have tried to make a last minute push to swag Grogan.

“Whoever gets him is getting a good player and a good person,” Fuhrer said. “He’s a good get.”
