HLB advances to Boys’ Top 28’s semifinals

H.L. Bourgeois is still in the hunt for the Class 5A title, readying to face Huntington in the semifinals at the Boys’ Top 28 Tournament at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette’s Cajundome this week.


The Braves and top-ranked Huntington will face off at 6:30 p.m.


The H.L. Bourgeois (24-11 overall) defeated the Ouachita Lions 62-59 in Friday night’s quarterfinals.

The second local team in the hunt, the Ellender Memorial Patriots, fell to District 8-4A rival Helen Cox, 62-59, in the Class 4A quarterfinals. The Patriots ended their season at 29-10.

Bourgeois’s top scorers against the Lions were Stevie Howard (20 points) and Tramel White (30 points, nine steals).

In Ellender’s matchup against Helen Cox, the Patriots’ top scorers were Sterling Jones (13 points) and Chris Duthu (8 points) and Trevon Lewis (7 points).
