Lady Patriots exact revenge on Vandebilt, win district

Ellender Memorial owned a 24-17 first-quarter lead over Vandebilt Catholic, but went into the locker room ahead 50-27 at the half.


The Lady Patriots never looked back and cruised to an emphatic 80-38 home victory Friday. In doing so, Ellender captured the District 8-4A title – coach Kenneth Nixon’s 13th in 15 years – and avenged an earlier 59-51 district loss to the Lady Terriers.


Deanna Allen scored 25 points and Asia Williams added 23 for the Lady Patriots (32-4 overall, 7-1 in district).

Sumar Leslie netted 22 for Vandebilt (25-5, 6-2).


Terrebonne 44, H.L. Bourgeois 29


The Lady Tigers claimed at least a share of the district title with a comfortable win over H.L. Bourgeois Friday.

Jonquail Parsee scored 16 points and Alaina Verdin added 11 points for Terrebonne (24-9 overall, 10-2 in district).


Tamitrius Bryant led H.L. Bourgeois (7-16, 3-9) with 10 points.


Assumption 80, South Lafourche 78 (OT)

Savannah Lerille scored 20 points and Lanie Charpentier contributed 16 for the Lady Tarpons, but Assumption was able to prevail in the extra session Friday.


South Lafourche fell to 22-12 overall with the loss.


Central Lafourche 55, South Terrebonne 25

The Lady Trojans were sparked by Kayla Hebert’s 12 points in a comfortable win. Hebert got assistance from Jamie Lerille and Erica Robinson, who scored 10 apiece for Central Lafourche (14-19 overall, 3-9 in district).


Kadie Louviere led the Lady Gators (2-19, 0-12) with 14 points.


Boys

Ellender 70, Vandebilt 65


The Patriots benefited from a balanced scoring attack led by Sterling Jones (16 points), David Stewart (15) and Jamal Nixon (10) to hold off a surging Terriers squad that is trying to claw its way into the playoff picture.

DeShawn Patterson led Vandebilt Catholic with 20 points. Evan Mistich (14 points), Garrett Harkless (12) and Joel Ross (12) also got on the board for the Terriers (15-12 overall, 3-5 in district).

With the win, Ellender improved to 25-9 overall and 6-2 in district.

H.L. Bourgeois 72, Terrebonne 68

A 26-17 fourth-quarter run was the difference Friday for the Braves (19-11 overall, 8-2 in district).

H.L. Bourgeois was paced by Stevie Howard, who pumped in a game-high 31 points. Tramel White also chipped in 18 for the Braves.

Stan Coleman (17 points), Cornell Norman (12) and Mike Jones (11) led Terrebonne (15-18, 5-5).

Westgate 101, Thibodaux 98 (2OT)

The defending 5A state champions needed two extra sessions to hold off a hungry Tigers squad.

Thibodaux got production from Bradley Ward (29 points),Trovon Reed (19), Brandon Thompson (14) and Shavon Coleman (10).

With the loss, the Tigers dropped to 20-10 overall.

South Terrebonne 69, Central Lafourche 57

The Gators’ offense was fueled by Que Austin (28 points) and Rondale Livas (20 points) Friday night in a win that improved South Terrebonne to 7-20 overall and 2-8 in district.

Terrell Folse scored 15 points and Byron Thomas added 10 for the Trojans (3-29, 0-11).

South Lafourche 66, Assumption 64 (OT)

Wesley Rhodes led the Tarpons with 23 points in a tightly-contested matchup that required an extra stanza to decide.

With the win, South Lafourche (25-4 overall through Monday) was assured at least a share of the District 8-5A title.
