While most teams played their conference tournaments this week, the LSU baseball team stayed home and practiced for the NCAA Tournament.

Those labors were for naught, as the NCAA announced Monday that the Tigers were not chosen to be among the 64 teams in the field.

The lack of inclusion in the field ends LSU’s season with a 36-20 record.

The 2011 campaign was filled with ups and downs for the Tigers.

LSU started the season 11-0 and finished winning 12 of their final 15 games. But the middle wasn’t quite as friendly to the Tigers, who struggled in Southeastern Conference play, especially on the road.

The committee chose bubble teams like Dallas Baptist and Mississippi State over LSU.

The selection of the Bulldogs will likely sour on the stomachs of the Tigers’ faithful as LSU beat Mississippi State two out of three games in the Bulldogs’ home park to close the season, while also posting a better RPI rating and better overall record.

This marks the second time in Paul Mainieri’s career at LSU that the Tigers don’t make the Field of 64.
