While the Tri-parish’s best showcased their skills to the state in track and field, local baseball teams have not fared quite as well in the state playoffs.

The only team with a chance to make it to the state semifinals is Class 3A E.D. White who shut out the No. 1 team, Parkview Baptist, on Monday with a score of 5-0. Who and when the Cardinals play next were not available at press time.

In Class 5A all of the locals were bounced from the playoffs in the opening round.

No. 30 South Lafourche squandered an early 5-0 lead on the road against Lafayette and dropped a 15-5 game.

Cross-parish rivals Central Lafourche suffered a similar first round fate and fell to Rummel 8-3.

In Class 4A, Vandebilt Catholic scored victories in the first two rounds of the playoffs and were playing on their home field in the state quarterfinals.

But the Terriers were not able to capitalize and punch a ticket to the Final Four, losing a 5-3 game to Sam Houston.

Morgan City had also advanced past the first round in Class 4A before being eliminated in the third round by West Ouachita.

In Class 3A, Patterson won their opening round game and was knocked out in the second round by E.D. White’s foe, Parkview Baptist.

Conquering the state’s top 3A team would prove to be an admirable feat. In the first two rounds of the playoffs, Parkview Baptist outscored their opponents by a combined 27-0 margin.
