The 2007 edition of the Ellender football team has a new saying: &#8220Don’t mean it, don’t say it.”

This mantra revealed itself when the Patriots walked off the field with a 27-17 victory over South Terrebonne Friday at the Terrebonne Parish Jamboree.

Bradford Matthews scored two touchdowns – one through the air and the other on the ground – to give Ellender the win.

The Gators struck first with a 34-yard field goal by Ben Landry, but the Patriots answered back when quarterback Hosea Chatman (6-of-7 for 176 yards and three touchdowns) connected with Jamal Nixon on an 80-yard scoring strike with 8:35 left in the half.

The extra point was blocked, but the Patriots regained momentum when Kody Breaux fumbled his team’s ensuing kickoff, giving the Pats the ball on the 4-yard line. Moments later, Jonathan Guidry bulldozed his way in for a 4-yard touchdown run with 6:43 left on the clock.

Gators quarterback Blake Martin answered with a 32-yard pass to Demetrius Boyd, but Chatman found Matthews on a 35-yard touchdown pass to close out the half.

Matthews went up over two Gator defenders for his second score late in the game.

B.J. Dardar closed the deficit with a 4-yard touchdown run with 3:29 left in regulation, but South Terrebonne wasn’t able to get any closer.

H.L. Bourgeois 53, Terrebonne 0

H.L. Bourgeois lit up the scoreboard with seven touchdowns in a convincing 53-0 win over Terrebonne Friday at the Terrebonne Parish Jamboree.

Quarterback Evan Ingram set the tone with a 44-yard touchdown pass to Christian Williams in the Braves first offensive possession and a 36-yard jump-ball to Kerry Guidry later in the first half.

Ingram also scored on a 1-yard sneak.

Christian Williams (five rushes for 69 yards, one touchdown) and Sean Harvey (four rushes for 69 yards and one touchdown) led a 247-yard rushing attack for H.L. Bourgeois.

Also finding pay dirt were Caleb Williams (45-yard run) and Steven Stewart.

Not to be outdone, the Braves defense forced three turnovers and only allowed six first downs.

Senior Bruce Jones led the way with one sack, three tackles, and two interceptions. He returned his second pick for a 52-yard touchdown in the closing minutes of the game.

&#8220Scoring a touchdown was the only thing on my mind,” Jones said. &#8220I love my team and tonight we came out and put the team first and it showed.”

Coach Randy Boquet of H.L. Bourgeois said he was really proud of his kids.

&#8220They (Braves) came out and played at a really high level and I hope they can do this all season long,” he said.
