Evan Mistich is a junior quarterback for the Vandebilt Terriers. This season, Mistich has helped lead the Terriers to a 6-4 season and a playoff berth. In Vandebilt’s 9-7 Bi-District playoff win over Haughton, Mistich threw the winning touchdown pass. The Terriers host St. Thomas More this Friday night, in Houma.

Q: How long have you been playing football, and what got you involved in it?

A: I guess I started when I was around seven. I played a year of flag football before I could start playing tackle. My brother played some Bantam league, and things like that. And my dad was always a fan, so I was always around the game. So I wanted to play.

Q: Who is your favorite opponent to play?

A: You have to love the E.D. White game. Everybody comes out. The stadium gets packed for that one. So it’s good to play against them always. And plus I like playing against Terrebonne because I used to be in the public school system, and I know a bunch of them.

Q: What’s the toughest thing about playing the quarterback position?

A: It’s a lot of preparation. You have to remember a lot of things, and it’s a lot more mental work. It’s a lot of mental work, and then the defense always coming at you.

Q: What’s going through your mind when you leave the huddle and going to the line of scrimmage?

A: First look at the defense, and how they’re lined up. Pre-snap reads, and stuff like that. And just thinking about what’s going to happen when I snap the ball, and trying to visualize the play I’m going to make.

Q: Since you also return punts, excitement-wise, do you prefer returning punts of playing quarterback?

A: They both have their ups and downs, but I like returning punts. It’s exciting to be able to just make it happen on the spot, like that.

Q: What’s your favorite memory about playing here at Vandebilt since you’ve been here?

A: Probably the Belle Chasse game, this season. Because I returned the punt with the time running out, it ended up being the game winner. Or last weekend, throwing that touchdown pass in the playoffs. It was a first playoff win in a few years.

Q: What was the feeling like when y’all won the playoff game last Friday?

A: It was a great feeling. We were thinking positive all week, and we just went out and handled our business, and we look to do the same this week.

Q: Say something about coach Brad Villavaso that y’all, as players, know?

A: Coach V’s very emotional. He puts a lot into it and he has strong feelings about us and wants to see us do our best, because that’s all he wants out of us.
