SportsNet Week 2

Players of the Week:

Bronze: Terrebonne defensive back Jordan Johnson, With Ellender pushing toward the end zone, Johnson intercepted a pass and took the football 100 yards to the end zone for a Tigers’ score.

Silver: Vandebilt Catholic halfback Elijah McGuire, With the Terriers’ regular quarterback out of the lineup, McGuire stepped in and shined, rushing for 186 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns.

Gold: South Lafourche quarterback Seth Griffin, Griffin just wouldn’t let the Tarpons lose Friday night, rallying three separate come from behind scoring drives to push the Tarpons past Miller McCoy. Griffin tallied 106 rushing yards and 67 passing yards in the South Lafourche victory.

The Super 6 power rankings (ranking Casey Gisclair’s six best Tri-parish teams):

1. Patterson, The Lumberjacks are locked and loaded with Division I prospects all over the field. It looks like this could be another Superdome run for Patterson, who is hungry to bring home the big trophy this time around.

2. Central Catholic, The Eagles fell a few steps short of their state championship ambitions in 2010. With a depth chart littered of returnees, Central Catholic expects to be big-time players again this year.

3. Vandebilt Catholic, The Terriers have solid offense, defense and special teams. They also have the most explosive player in the region. Sounds like a recipe for success.

4. South Lafourche, The Tarpons don’t have depth on their side, sporting a roster of just more than 40 players. But the kids South Lafourche runs onto the field can almost all play at a high level. With health, look out for Tarpon Thunder.

5. E.D. White, The Cardinals lost virtually their entire offense from last year. But with a jamboree victory over Thibodaux, it doesn’t appear the young Cardinals will miss a beat this season.

6. South Terrebonne, The Gators have tons of offensive experience and have an aggressive and ambitious defense. Still hungry from being the first team left out of the playoffs last year, the Gators figure to be in the mix again in 2011.

Patterson senior quarterback Justice Jones surveys the line of scrimmage during a game last season. With a slew of returnees, the Lumberjacks are ranked No. 1 in TPT sports editor Casey Gisclair’s preseason Super 6 power rankings. CASEY GISCLAIR
