While the New Orleans’ Saints gained valuable experience shadowing the New England Patriots for the past week in Boston, the team lost one of its top reserve halfbacks on the trip, as well.

Third-string tailback Lynell Hamilton tore his ACL in right knee during a routine practice drill.

The 6-foot, 235-pound halfback rushed for just 125 yards on 35 carries last season.

But his role was expected to increase this season with the team’s former third back, Mike Bell, having signed with the Eagles.

In Hamilton’s absence, former Wisconsin standout P.J. Hill will likely have an opportunity to take over as the team’s short yardage back.
