Last week: lost 56-14 at Acadiana in Bi-District


The No. 27 seeded Braves lost to No. 6 seed Acadiana in the first round of the state playoffs, last Friday night. Acadiana took control of the game early on, jumping to a 21-0 lead, and an eventual 42-14 lead at halftime. On the night, Acadiana outgained the Braves 476-283. Scoring for the Braves were linebacker Kiamni Washington (33-yard fumble return) and running back Christian Williams (45-yard run).

South Terrebonne


Last week: lost 23-14 vs. Holy Cross in Bi-District


The No.10 seed South Terrebonne Gators’ perfect season ended with a 23-14 loss to Holy Cross, last Friday night in Bourg. South Terrebonne took a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, but surrendered 23-unanswered points throughout the remainder of the game. Holy Cross tied the score 14-14 at halftime, then capitalized on a fourth-quarter fumble by South Terrebonne to take a 20-14 lead. A late field goal clinched the game for the Tigers.

Thibodaux


Last week: lost 41-13 at Fontainebleau

Thibodaux, the No. 31 seeded team, gave No. 2 seed Fontainebleau all it could handle in the first half. After falling behind 7-0, the Tigers scored 13-unanswered points to take a 13-7 lead with 5:40 left in the first half. Fontainebleau regained the lead before halftime, 14-13, then came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, taking a 41-13 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the game. On the night Fontainebleau outgained Thibodaux 360-286.

Vandebilt

Last week: won 9-7 at Haughton


After a thunderstorm delayed the start of the game for 50 minutes, No. 22 Vandebilt Catholic took to the ground to defeat No. 11 Haughton, 9-7, in a defensive struggle. Haughton scored first, taking a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter, but Vandebilt answered in the second half with a third-quarter field goal, and fourth quarter touchdown drive that took the Terriers 95 yards. Evan Mistich tossed the winning score to Alex Mitchell.

E.D. White


Last week: won 21-18 at Parkview Baptist

The No. 23 seed E.D. White advanced to the Regional round of the playoffs with a 21-18 win over No. 10 seed Parkview Baptist. The Cardinals forced four turnovers en route to the victory. Trailing 18-13 late in the game, E.D. White’ returned a punt to the one-yard line, setting up a one-yard touchdown run by Drey Trosclair. Chase Clement’s two-point conversion put E.D. White ahead for good. The game was a defensive battle, with Parkview outgaining E.D. White 193-132.

Patterson

Last week: won 30-17 at Church Point

The No. 21 Lumberjacks upset No. 12 seed Church Point en route to the Regional round of the state playoffs. Patterson will host No. 5 seed Lutcher.

Nicholls St.

Last week: lost 16-13 vs. Stephen F. Austin

The Colonels lost any chance at a repeat Southland Conference championship when Stephen F. Austin scored on a 42-yard touchdown pass with 40 seconds remaining. The Lumberjacks were held to three points in the first three quarters of play, but scored 13 in the fourth, to earn the win. The Colonels led 10-0 at halftime.

LSU

Last week: won 28-14 vs. Alabama

LSU continued its impressive play at Tiger Stadium, by beating rival Alabama 28-14. JaMarcus Russell tossed three touchdown passes in an 18-for-21, 207-yard performance. Early Doucet, Dwayne Bowe and Jacob Hester each caught scores, while Keiland Williams added nine rushes for 79 yards and a touchdown. With the win, the Tigers moved to No. 11 in the BCS standings.

New Orleans Saints

Last week: lost 38-31 at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Saints turned the ball over three times on their way to a 38-31 loss to defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh. Two 70-plus yard runs by Steelers’ running back Willie Parker set Pittsburgh up for the go-ahead scores, making it 38-24. The Saints answered, cutting it to 38-31, and appeared to be headed for the tying score when Terrence Copper fumbled a first-down reception at Pittsburgh’s 25-yard line.
