Several locals qualify for state in track

The Tri-parish’s stars were shining brightly last Wednesday at the Class 5A Region III regional track meet.

With the stakes high and only the top three finishers in each event moving to state competition, some of the area’s top performers throughout the season did their best work.

Terrebonne’s Sierra Lyons advanced to state in three events and took home first the javelin, shot put and discus events.

With the boys, South Lafourche’s Rusty Borne also shined brightly and won the long and triple jump events.

In the team events, H.L. Bourgeois finished fourth in the girls’ regionals and Terrebonne and Thibodaux came in and fifth and sixth respectively.

For the boys, South Lafourche finished third and Thibodaux placed fourth.
