South Lafourche boys wins District 8-5A title

For the second straight week, South Lafourche boys defended their home track. This time it was to win the District 8-5A championship.

Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers of Terrebonne survived a scare from the Lady Tigers of Thibodaux to win the girls’ district title.

The Tarpons blew away the boys’ competition, compiling 140 points to second place South Terrebonne’s 115. The rest of the boys’ team results were: H.L. Bourgeois (99), Central Lafourche (68), Thibodaux (62), Terrebonne (54) and Assumption (20).

Terrebonne’s earned 119 points edged out Thibodaux (112) in the girls’ events. The rest of the girls’ team results were: Assumption (87), Central Lafourche (86), South Lafourche (65), H.L. Bourgeois (48) and South Terrebonne (41).

H.L. Bourgeois’ Christian Williams and South Lafourche’s Tyler Guidry tied for the Male Field MVP. Williams won the long and triple jumps (22 feet, 8.75 inches and 45 feet, 2 inches, respectively). Guidry won the shot put (53 feet, half-inch) and discus (144 feet, 8 inches).

Central Lafourche’s Stuart Theriot was named Male Track MVP with wins in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs (2:01:49, 4:39:78, and 10:13:22, respectively).

Terrebonne’s Sierra Lyons was the Female Field MVP for placing first in the shot put (39 feet, 1 inch) and third in the discus.

Terrebonne’s Skyla Jackson was the Female Track MVP for winning the 1,600- (5:50:74) and 3,200-meter (12:53:55) runs and finishing second in the 800-meter run.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to the Region 3-5A meet Thursday at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans.
