Boat Safety Class scheduled for June in Galliano

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reports a Boating Safety Class that was to be held on May 12th at the Fire Central Building (17462 West Main Street, Galliano) has been rescheduled for June 9th at the same location.

The class will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The class will certify attendees’ ages 13 years of age and up. Instructors will be members of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol section.

There is a comprehensive exam required in order to complete the curriculum. The class is limited to 25 persons. There will be a lecture and written test.

The rescheduling of the class was caused by a low registration.

Parents are encouraged to register early by contacting the South Lafourche Sub-station or any member of the Sheriff’s Water Patrol at (985) 632-5844. Parents should give the child’s name, age, date of birth, and a contact number. Participants will need to bring their own lunch; no snacks will be available.

The Boating Safety class is free to the public and required for anyone wishing to operate a watercraft that was born after Jan. 1, 1988.
