Terrebonne’s first-round playoff game against Destrehan was essentially a microcosm of its season.

The Tigers got off to a strong start, struggled through the middle and finally rebounded to produce a strong finish.

Unfortunately for No. 26-seeded Terrebonne, however, a 37-point fourth-quarter rally wasn’t enough to overcome an early deficit, and the Tigers eventually fell to the No. 7- seeded Wildcats 72-61 Friday in a Class 5A bi-district matchup.

With the loss, Terrebonne ended its season at 17-19 overall.

“We didn’t execute our game plan and let this one slip away from us,” said first-year Tigers coach Byron McPherson. “But I liked the way my young guys that are coming back next year continued to battle (in the fourth quarter).”

Destrehan (26-9) was led by Roosevelt Johnson, who pumped in a game-high 32 points. Stan Coleman scored 16 for the Tigers.

After the final buzzer, members of the Terrebonne boy’s basketball team walked off the court visibly dejected.

That was the silver lining for McPherson.

“It’s bad that we lost, but it’s good to see the emotion from our players because we lost,” he explained.

McPherson will use the loss to fuel next year’s team.

“We started off this season strong, but then injuries caused us to lose some key players and we were without two starts throughout the majority of our games,” he said. “But I really learned a lot this season. Now we see what it takes to win in the playoffs. Our program is headed in the right direction. We’ll be back.”

Mandeville 66, Thibodaux 64

The Tigers held a 49-47 lead over Mandeville heading into the fourth quarter, but were outscored 19-14 in the final stanza in a tight Class 5A playoff loss Friday.

Shovon Coleman scored 19 points for 19th-seeded Thibodaux (21-12 overall). Joining Coleman in double figures was Demon Bolt (17 points) and Trovon Reed (13).

Jordan Ganapamo led the Skippers (27-7) with 23 points.

H.L. Bourgeois 75, Southwood 68

The No. 13-seeded Braves got an offensive punch from Tramel White (28 points), Stevie Howard (21) and Jordan Steib (10) to hold off the Cowboys Friday in a Class 5A bi-district playoff matchup.

Lonis Ellis netted 25 points for Southwood (17-12).

H. L. Bourgeois advanced to a regional-round playoff game against No. 4-seeded St. Thomas More Tuesday, but the results were unavailable by press time.

St. Paul’s 66, South Lafourche 54

The Tarpons took early control of the game with an 8-0 lead, but St. Paul’s rallied to even the score at 26 heading into the half.

From there, the Wolves held the edge in the third and fourth quarters and cruised to a Class 5A bi-district win.

The Tarpons (25-6 overall) were led by Wesley Rhodes (18 points), Cyle Fonseca (14) and Ryan Leday (10).

Ellender 86, Neville 69

The Patriots (No. 7) held off a late comeback to win its first-round playoff game against the lower-seeded Tigers (No. 26) Friday.

Ellender got double-digit performances from Jamal Nixon (25 points), Sterling Jones (23), David Stewart (15) and Trevon Lewis (10).

The Patriots (27-9) hosted No.10-seeded Minden in the second round Tuesday, but the results were unavailable by press time.
