Both the LSU and Nicholls State football teams officially began their march to opening kickoff this week, as both teams reported to campus to begin fall practices.

The Tigers reported Thursday, and welcomed 104 players to camp.

LSU coach Les Miles said he is excited about coaching a team he feels can “compete for a championship.”

“The guys that we expected to arrive have arrived and it looks to be a very talented group. I look forward to this team,” he said. “They have a great attitude and they are good people. This is going to be a fun group to coach.”

Like LSU, the Colonels reported Thursday and welcomed “close to 90 players,” to officially kick off head coach Charlie Stubbs’ inaugural season in Thibodaux.

“We have been fortunate to have a lot of our student athletes here in the summer, participating in the offseason conditioning program, and those players, along with all of our newcomers will need to be ready to listen and work hard,” Stubbs said.

Both the Colonels and Tigers open their seasons Sept. 4.

LSU will take on North Carolina in Atlanta, while the Colonels will travel to California to play San Diego State.
