Even though their record doesn’t show it the Central Lafourche Trojans are treating their district slate like the playoffs.

After starting off the pre-district schedule 4-13, the Trojans entered Friday’s game against the Thibodaux Tigers 2-1 in district.

The Trojans played like a playoff team, putting together a 20-7 run in the fourth quarter to secure the 73-60 victory.

Central Lafourche Head Coach Paul Paille said even though the Trojans are 7-14 overall, it’s the 3-1 district record that matters.

“I told my guys that this is where we make the playoffs,” Paille said. “I been telling them all week that we need to go out there and make the playoffs tonight, don’t wait to make a run at the end of the season. Everybody was giving up on us but we pulled it together and got back to the fundamentals of basketball.”

The Trojans erased an eight-point half time deficit (36-28) by starting the second half off with a 13-0 run to take the 38-36 lead. Sam Wilke scored five of the first ten to erase the deficit.

The Tigers (8-11, 2-2) ended the scoring drought following a lay-up by Carlos Coler at the 2:50 mark in the third quarter.

Tristan Cheatam closed the gap to 43-42, but the Tigers failed to take the lead and trialed 49-46 heading into the final quarter.

After both teams traded baskets to open the fourth quarter, the Tigers tied the game at 51 on a three pointer by Tristan Cheatam. Seconds later Cheatam scored on a fast break and the Tigers lead 53-51.

Davon Anderson tied the game at 53 and the Trojans used the 20-7 run to close out the game and secure the victory.

“Central just outplayed us tonight,” Thibodaux Head Coach Tony Clark said. “It’s that simple, we were just outplayed.”

Paille said this win helps the team’s confidence level.

“We feel we can play with anybody if we bring our game,” Paille said. “If we do the little things we need to do I know we can compete.”

Wilke led all Trojans with 19 while Lucas Leblanc added 18. The Tigers were led by Cheatam (16) and Coler (12).
