Week 5 news and notes in the Tri-parishes:

253: The number of total yards South Lafourche junior quarterback Seth Griffin accumulated against Terrebonne. Griffin had 200 yards through the air and 53 yards on the ground with two total touchdowns, as well.

8: The approximate number of inches that stood between Thibodaux and victory Friday night. With the game on the line in overtime, the Tigers attempted a two-point conversion, but South Terrebonne defenders stonewalled the ball carrier and left him inches short of the goal line and victory.

3: The number of consecutive victories for E.D. White. The Cardinals started the season 0-2, but have rebounded to rattle off three-consecutive wins, including a 31-7 win against Brusly on Friday.

SportsNet Week 5 Players of the Week:

Bronze: E.D. White fullback Dylan Ledet – Ledet continued to push and plow through opposing defenders, rushing for 135 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns in a win against Brusly.

Silver: Patterson halfback Kenny Hilliard – With a sprained ankle, Hilliard rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns, while leading Patterson past a Class 5A opponent.

Gold: Central Lafourche’s defense – The Trojans forced six total turnovers in their 37-20 win against H.L. Bourgeois. The unit recovered four fumbles and picked off two Braves’ passes.

The Super 6 power rankings ranking Casey Gisclair’s six best Tri-parish teams):

1. Terrebonne – It wasn’t easy, but the Tigers survived a stiff challenge from South Lafourche. Any coach in the Bayou District will say that winning in Galliano isn’t easy.

2. South Terrebonne – The Gators were less than a foot away from a loss. But their defense held firm, and we’ll keep them at No. 2 for yet another week.

3. Vandebilt – With tragedy behind them, the Terriers will return to the field with heavy hearts this Friday against Belle Chasse.

4. E.D. White – Is Dylan Ledet tough or what? The Cardinals are showing some of their experience and are becoming the team we all thought they should be after their 0-2 start.

5. Patterson – Kenny Hilliard on one healthy leg is better than a lot of people full strength. He proved that yet again Friday as he dragged his sprained ankle along for the ride. The Jacks are something to see when they’re clicking.

6. Central Catholic – Our area’s third unbeaten is still alive after another sound victory.
