The 2012 prep baseball and softball seasons have come and passed.


This week, the Louisiana Sports Writers Association gave the top standouts from the past year a deserved pat on the back for their efforts.

The sporting body announced its 2012 All-State teams this week – several with Tri-parish roots.


In Class 5A, Terrebonne High School standout Justin Williams was named First-Team All-State as a utility player.


Having the ability to play both the infield and outfield, the LSU verbal commitment wowed opponents with an array of power, speed and fielding ability.

Joining the current and future Tiger on the list of honorees include the Central Lafourche trio of Brett Babin, Jordan Caillouet and Jace Cheramie.


Three of the team’s top players from its Bayou District Championship squad, the Trojans all landed on the Honorable Mention team.


In softball, H.L. Bourgeois star shortstop Cheyenne Naquin was named to the 5A All-State roster as an Honorable Mention selection.

In Class 4A, Morgan City’s Andrew Gautreaux was named First-Team All-State.


Joining the Tiger among locals are his teammate Dylan Hymel and South Terrebonne’s James LeBlanc and Britt Pellegrin, all of whom were Honorable Mention selections.


On the girls’ side, Vandebilt Catholic dominated the local ballots.

Pitcher Leah Bergeron and Makelle Pena were First-Team selections, while teammate Carly Ellender was an Honorable Mention pick.

Ellender High School standout Kyler Trosclair was also a First-Team pick in Class 4A, while Morgan City’s Shannon Theriot earned a spot among the Honorable Mention list.

In Class 3A, E.D. White’s pitcher-catcher battery of Scott Szush and Logan Barbera each earned spots as First-Team selections.

Cardinals Brett Duet and John Mayeaux were also Honorable Mention selections. Joining them was Berwick pitcher Trey Williams.

On the softball side, Lady Cardinal sophomore slugger Kali Clement rode her .435 batting average to a place on the First Team.

Fellow E.D. White standout Madison Rodrigue and Berwick shortstop Abigail Ohlin were Honorable Mention picks.

In Class 1A, Central Catholic coach Tyler Jensen was rewarded for his team’s push to the state title game and he was named the Class 1A Coach of the Year.

Eagles standouts Bryson Barbier, Barron Courtney and Josh Singleton were also named to the team.

Singleton and Barbier were on the First Team, while Courtney was Honorable Mention.

Houma Christian pitcher Dakota Durkes was an Honorable Mention pick.

Houma Christian’s Lindsay Crowdus was a First-Team pick in softball. Her Lady Warrior teammate Emily Albares and Central Catholic pitcher Meagan Landry were Honorable Mention picks.
