Houma native Elijah McGuire is going to be wearing a different uniform than normal this spring.

The Vandebilt Catholic graduate and UL-Lafayette football star announced on Monday morning that he will be joining the Ragin’ Cajuns basketball team, effective immediately.

McGuire was pondering a move to the NFL Draft, but opted to stay in school after receiving his NFL grade from the Draft Advisory Board.

A release issued by the Ragin’ Cajuns’ athletic department said McGuire will be with the basketball team for the rest of the season before returning to football next fall.

“Eli loves to compete, loves this university and feels like he can be an asset to the men’s basketball program,” UL-Lafayette football coach Mark Hudspeth said. “If this will help our men’s basketball program with their continued success … then Eli and our basketball program has our full support.” •
