This past week was a good one for Richie Riley and the Nicholls State University men’s basketball team.

They netted two graduate transfers on the recruiting trail – adding depth to a Colonels roster that is hungry to make a push for the Southland Conference Title in 2017-18.

According to multiple college basketball analysts, Nicholls has been active on the graduate transfer trail, loading up on upperclassmen players who have already graduated, but still have eligibility, which means they can move from school to school without having to sit out a season.

By working those angles, the Colonels have landed Clemson transfer Legend Robertin and Northern Colorado transfer Jeremy Verhagen this week – adding to a recruiting class which is already ripe with talent.

Both the incoming players will add size to the Colonels’ lineup – something the team needs with Liam Thomas graduating and heading to the professional game.

Roberton stands 7-foot and weighs 260 pounds.

A native of London, Robertin played for Clemson for the past two seasons, earning sporadic minutes with the Tigers. He was recruited to the ACC school by Riley when Riley was an assistant coach with the team.

In 2015-16, he averaged 0.8 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

Last year, he played 6.5 minutes per game and averaged 0.9 points per game.

But with the Colonels, Robertin is expected to play a larger role, earning some of the minutes that Thomas leaves behind.

Before playing for Clemson, Robertin was a one-year player at Chipola Junior College, averaging 4.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a freshman.

In Verhagen, the Colonels are going to be getting a little bit more of a polished threat – a player with experience playing significant minutes in college basketball.

For the past three seasons, Verhagen played with the Northern Colorado Bears. As a junior, he upped his playing time to 20.2 minutes per game – one of the more reliable post players on the team.

Last season, Verhagen averaged 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 52 percent from the field.

Standing 6-foot, 10-inches and weighing 225 pounds, Verhagen is expected to compete for playing time right away in Thibodaux.
