The Nicholls State volleyball team has its new coach.

He lands in Thibodaux with more than 10 years experience as a head coach and 200 victories under his belt.

Colonels athletics director Rob Bernardi announced Monday afternoon that Loyola-New Orleans volleyball coach Tommy Harold has been hired to run Nicholls’ program.

Harold spent 10 seasons with Loyola and accumulated a 207-113 record.

“I’m thankful to Rob and the Nicholls administration for this opportunity,” Harold said. “I look forward to coming in and getting started right away.”

Harold’s pedigree for success made him an attractive hire, according to Bernardi.

In his decade with Loyola-New Orleans, Harold turned the Wolfpack into one of the best programs in the Gulf Coast and Southern States Athletic Conference.

During his time with the team, Harold never had a losing season. His teams had eight seasons with 20 or more victories.

“Tommy was extremely successful at Loyola, and we have every reason to believe that he will continue his success at Nicholls,” Bernardi said.

Recruiting is one of Harold’s recipes for success.

With Loyola, Harold signed and coached more than 50 postseason award recipients, including two Freshmen of the Year winners and two Libero of the Year winners.

The coach said after surveying volleyball in the Tri-parish area, he believes he can bring local talent into the program and help Nicholls push for Southland Conference championships.

I think there is a lot of untapped talent and resources here in this area that are just waited to be used,” Harold said. “And I hope to make this team one the university and community can be proud of.”
