Dear fans, family, friends and everyone else,

I want to start out this entry by thanking the Houma Times Newspaper and the wonderful people of Rushing Media for giving me the opportunity to write this entry each week.

I am bombarded with Facebook messages, emails and everything else, and there’s no time in my day to respond to everyone’s questions, so to have this space to keep an active journal is AMAZING!!

My past seven days have been a whirlwind. I feel like I’ve been around the world and back. Oh wait, that’s probably because I have literally circled the globe!

Last Tuesday, I boarded a plane and headed from New Orleans to San Francisco. From there, I went from San Francisco to Australia. In total, I was in the air for more than 20 hours, and the entire time that I was in the air, I was filled with suspense and adrenaline, because I had absolutely no clue what was going to come next for me.

As many of you know, I signed a contract that will place me with the Werribee Devils for the 2017 season, so I will be in the land Down Under for the next six or so months.

I signed the contract in December, and during the lead-up to my departure, I was excited, but also curious as to if I’d like Australia, the people and all of the adventures that were ahead.

Those concerns were all ill-conceived and misguided, because, folks, I am in one of the GREATEST places in the world!!

My first week in Australia has been wonderful, and I truly have NO COMPLAINTS about anything that I’ve experienced here.

On the court, my teammates are awesome! My coaches are well-informed and have good intentions. We’re a team that struggled last year, but I don’t think we’re going to have problems this year. We are hungry, motivated and are ready to begin our season in March!!

Off the court, I am blessed to live in paradise!! I am living just outside of Melbourne, Australia, and within a five-minute walk, I can see any of the following things:

  • Amazing cafes, coffee shops and restaurants – Ya’ll, the food here is UNBELIEVABLE!! You don’t know a good omelet until you’ve had an Australian-made omelet. I am going to miss the food here when I return home.
  • A gorgeous beach – I am on the coast of the extreme Southern tip of the Australian continent. Right now, it’s winter in Louisiana, but it’s still summer here! The temperatures are in the mid-70s every day, and I spend a lot of my idle time sitting on the beach, soaking in sun and enjoying the sounds of water splashing the shore. Check out the awesome beach view by CLICKING HERE!
  • Parks, parks and more parks! – Australia is like the place that invented parks! There are green spaces EVERYWHERE I turn. It’s so amazing to see a continent that cares so much about the environment and the people who live within it.

Anyway, it’s almost time to roll out of bed and get to work for the day! And when I say “get to work,” I really just mean it’s time to get dressed and head to breakfast.

My delicious omelet for the day awaits!

Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes, thoughts and prayers!

Please know that I am praying for you all, too – even from far, far away!

To God goes the Glory,

SL7
