The Terrebonne Parish School Board welcomed several new coaches into the area at their last regularly scheduled meeting.

The board approved 10 hires across four different schools in the area.

H.L. Bourgeois, Ellender, Houma Junior High and Oaklawn are the schools to receive coaches in the hiring sweep.

Starting with H.L. Bourgeois – the board approved the hire of two head coaches and two assistant coaches within the school.

Derrick Nesby will officially be the Braves’ new cross country coach. He also has been approved to serve as the school’s varsity boys’ track and field coach.

The school’s football team has also tapped Damieon Mills as an assistant.

Jordan Steib has also been approved to be HLB’s boys’ basketball assistant coach.

At Ellender, the school’s football coach will also officially serve as the athletics director.

During the board meeting, the governing officials approved Patriots coach Don Washington to serve as the school’s athletics director.

Washington has had a significant impact on the Patriots’ football program, turning them from a winless program into a near-miss playoff contender in the 2012 season.

While Washington continues his duties at Ellender, one of Ellender’s former football coaches will be roaming the sidelines for a new program in the upcoming season.

Longtime Ellender football coach Tawaskie Anderson has been approved to serve as the head football coach at Oaklawn Junior High School.

Anderson was the Patriots’ coach for nine seasons. His tenure included a trip to the playoffs. He also sent players to the college level.

Oaklawn also has secured a drill squad sponsor, as Bonnie Dubina was officially approved at the meeting.

Across town from Oaklawn, Houma Junior High also had three coaches approved at the school board meeting.

The school hired Danielle LaGarde to be its new girls’ track and field coach. It also has named Dwane Trosclair to serve as the head girls’ basketball coach.

Like Oaklawn, Houma Junior High also has secured the services of a new drill squad sponsor.

The school board has officially approved the hire of Joaquina Washington to serve in that position.
