Congratulations to local gymnasts Adelyn Whitney and Caroline Sweatman, who will be representing Team Louisiana at Level 6 (Adelyn) and 7 (Caroline) Regionals at the end of this month!

The two 5th graders are gymnasts for the James Academy of Gymnastics in Houma, coached by former Olympic coach Viktor Firsov. The girls will compete against teams from Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida at Regionals. Only the top 8 gymnasts from each state (in all age groups) were selected to participate in the competition.

“It’s really exciting to be going to Regionals,” said Adelyn. “I’m really looking forward to meeting new people.”

“Competing against a lot of people will be hard, but I’m feeling pretty confident,” said Caroline. “Everyone is really good at these competitions.”

The two girls currently have plans to open up their own gymnastics gym together when they grow up, and want to become coaches themselves.

Regionals will take place in Foley, Alabama from April 26-28, 2024. See the official meet schedule here.

Congratulations to Caroline and Adelyn!
