Frigid, wet weather has significantly altered the sports schedule in the Houma-Thibodaux area for this weekend.
At noon on Friday, temperatures locally were in the low 40s, and they’re expected to dip into the 30s at sundown and even into the 20s on Saturday morning.
With rain scattered throughout the map, forecasters say there is an increased possibility of a wintry mix of sleet or frozen rain this evening, which has prompted locals to cancel or postpone several games.

Altered Sports Schedule
- South Lafourche’s boys’ basketball game at St. Amant scheduled for tonight has been postponed to Tuesday.
- South Terrebonne’s girls’ basketball game versus Lutcher has been postponed to Feb. 9.
- Ellender’s boys’ basketball game with Madison Prep has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.
- Central Lafourche’s boys’ and girls’ soccer matches at South Terrebonne have been postponed to Monday.
- The Teurlings Catholic soccer tournament, which features E.D. White and Vandebilt is canceling play for today, but will resume on Saturday.
- Thibodaux and East St. John moved up its boys’ and girls’ basketball games scheduled for tonight and played last night to avoid the wet weather.

The cold weather will not wash out the entire weekend sports slate.
H.L. Bourgeois boys’ basketball coach Andrew Caillouet confirmed to The Times that the Braves will still host Central Lafourche tonight in Gray – a double header between the school’s boys’ and girls’ teams.
Terrebonne boys’ basketball coach Derek Szush also confirmed that Terrebonne’s game at Hahnville scheduled for tonight is still on.
