Week 5 Players of the Week

Bronze: E.D. White halfback Jeremy Rounds – The tough, physical E.D. White halfback punished Franklin’s defense on Friday night, allowing the Cardinals to score an easy win. Rounds rushed for 120 yards on nine tries.

Silver: Ellender halfback Reginald Williams – The Patriots may not have beaten St. Martinville on Friday night, but it surely wasn’t any fault to Williams. The halfback had a 55-yard touchdown run and an 81-yard reception to keep the Patriots close in Friday’s defeat.

Gold: Thibodaux athlete Donnell Adair – East St. John had no answer for Adair in Friday’s shootout win for Thibodaux over East St. John. Adair rushed for nearly 200 yards, while also making big plays as a receiver in a four-touchdown game.

The High-Five

1. Thibodaux: The Tigers started the 2015 season slow, but they’re clicking on all cylinders now. The Thibodaux rushing attack is lethal, and the team has an abundance of playmakers who are able to punish opponents throughout games.

2. Central Lafourche: After falling to South Lafourche in a turnover-filled game, the Trojans bounced back and beat a very good H.L. Bourgeois team. Central Lafourche won’t stay stuck on four wins this year. They’ll win a few more and finish above .500.

3. H.L. Bourgeois: The Braves won’t be undefeated in 2015. But that doesn’t mean that the team isn’t still very, very good. There’s no shame in losing by just seven to Central Lafourche. A few plays in either direction could have changed the outcome of that game.

4. South Lafourche: The Tarpons got beaten badly by Plaquemine, but so will a lot of other teams down the stretch of the season. South Lafourche should be getting healthy in the next few weeks, and when they do, they’ll be in good shape.

5. E.D. White: E.D. White has found its groove. The Cardinals have rebounded from the early-season struggles to get back above .500 for the season. They’ll shoot up this list if they can beat Patterson in Week 7.

By The Numbers for Week 5 of the Prep Football Season

20: Against an East St. John defense loaded with athletes, Thibodaux athlete Donnell Adair rushed for nearly 20 yards for carry to spark the Tigers to a win. Adair carried the ball 10 times for nearly 200 yards – a big-play machine.

0: With H.L. Bourgeois’ loss to Central Lafourche, there are now no unbeaten teams in the Houma-Thibodaux area. The Trojans ruined the Braves winning streak just one week after having their own unbeaten streak ended by South Lafourche.

8: Against an overmatched Franklin team, E.D. White took full advantage of the situation and scored an easy win. The Cardinals gained nearly 400 yards of total offense and had eight scoring drives to spark a 50-point win.

2: The South Lafourche football team let up two special teams touchdowns against Plaquemine on Friday – plays that demoralized the team. With the returns, Plaquemine was able to soar to an easy win.

20: Homecoming was tough for Terrebonne High School. The Wildcats scored 20 first-quarter points to stymie the celebrations for the Tigers, who are now below .500 for the first time this season.
