One thing is for certain – longtime wrestling legend “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan will be in Houma in a couple weeks to compete at Elite Championship Wrestling’s Supershow.

Now, all the wrestling organization has to do is figure out whether or not their champion will show up to take part in the festivities.

A WWE and WCW legend, Duggan is booked and will competing as the Elite Supershow, which will take place on July 20th at the East Park Recreation Building in Houma. The first bell for the night of action will be 5 p.m.

Duggan’s opponent isn’t yet certain, nor is whether a championship match will take place on the night of the super show.

That’s because Elite Championship Wrestling champion Stan Sweet Tan won the title at the company’s last show – the final night of his contract, per the organization’s storylines.

Sweet Tan, who is wildly unpopular with local fans, has since gone on a social media crusade, proclaiming that he will never compete for Elite Championship Wrestling again. He’s even defended the Elite Championship Wrestling championship at rival organization’s shows. The heel (wrestling term for bad guy) has even threatened legal action against Elite Championship Wrestling if they don’t remove him from promotional material leading up to the supershow.

Promotional posters show Sweet Tan defending his title in a three-way cage match against challengers Andy Dalton and John Saxon.

After saying multiple times on social media that he wouldn’t compete in the Houma event, he confirmed in a short statement to the Tri-Parish Times that he will take part in the main event, but he “guaranteed” that he will win and remain champ.

“They were successful in stacking the deck against me by having me defend my championship against two individuals,” Sweet Tan said. “But know this, your hero will be victorious!”

While Sweet Tan gets his ducks in a row, Duggan is a sure thing for the Houma-based show.

The wrestling legend remains a huge name among fans who remember Duggan from his days as a top-tier talent on both the Mid-South Wrestling circuit in the mid-1980s and in the WWE throughout the late-1980s and throughout the 1990s.

Duggan is now 60, and is not quite as fleet of foot as he once was in the ring.

But when fans hear Hacksaw’s theme music and see him stomp down the aisle with his customary 2×4 piece of wood, the Houma crowd will undoubtedly fall in line and begin their chants of USA.

If he’s fortunate enough to get an advantage in his match, and is able to convert his finishing move, the crowd will go crazy.

In addition to the possible championship match and Duggan’s appearance, this Elite Championship Wrestling show will be loaded with talent, according to Pitre.

This event is the premier event in the wrestling organization’s calendar year. It is similar to Wrestlemania in the WWE circles.

Pitre said that a slew of the organization’s top talent will be in action throughout the show.

NWA-North American Champion Byron Wilcott will defend his title during the show, as well as Elite Championship Wrestling tag team champions The Legion.

Also appearing on the card will be Tim Storm, Steve Anthony, Purple Haze, Xtian Blake, Mustang Mike and many other regulars from the organization’s main roster.

Fans wanting to see Duggan and the rest of the Elite Championship Wrestling roster better act fast. Organizers with the wrestling organization tout that the first three rows for the show are already sold out and the fourth row was nearing capacity at press time.

Anyone wishing to get tickets for the show are asked to visit elitechampionshipwrestling.com. Those interested may also call 985-262-9789 to secure seats for the show. Tickets purchased in advance cost $12. If one purchases seats at the door, the price is $15.

FANS CAN MEET DUGGAN

Prior to the start of the supershow, Elite Championship Wrestling will host a pre-event meet and greet with Duggan – a chance for fans to mingle with the wrestling great.

The meet and greet will take place at 3:30 p.m., and it will include an autographed 2×4. The cost to attend the meet and greet is $15, and tickets can be purchased by calling 985-262-9789.
