Four suspects were charged by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after they allegedly attempted to steal vehicles from Golden Motors in Cut Off.

Authorites were called to the local automobile dealership on July 7 in reference to three sets of keys being stolen.

Investigators learned that Mark Cheramie, 44, of Barataria, allegedly posed as Meaghan Eymard’s father to test drive a vehicle. Authorities uncovered that this was an alleged scheme to allow Jeffrey Desalvo, 33, of New Orleans, access to other vehicle keys.

At one point, authorities said Eymard created a distraction, which allowed Desalvo to allegedly steal three keys from behind a desk.

Employees quickly discovered the missing keys and watched surveillance, which showed the incident.

Workers confronted Desalvo and he gave back the keys. He and another man, Waldon Joseph Dufrene, 34, of Westwego, then fled in a Nissan Frontier pickup, stranding Cheramie and Eymard at the dealership.

Cheramie and Eymard were arrested as officers arrived and were charged with three counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle. Eymard was also found in possession of drug paraphernalia at the time of her arrest.

On Saturday after LPSO released photos of Desalvo and Dufrene, authorities were called to a convenience store in Cut Off by a concerned citizen who said the men were at the business.

Both men were taken into custody at that time.

Dufrene is charged with three counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle.

Desalvo faces the same charges, as well as resisting an officer, as well as driving under suspension and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

On Sunday, LPSO said it found the vehicle Desalvo was driving at the dealership during the time of the alleged scheme.

They confirmed that it was stolen from a dealership in Harvey.

Jeffrey Desalvo, Mark Cheramie, Meaghan Eymard and Waldon Dufrene Jr., were all arrested and charged last week for their alleged roles in a scheme designed to steal cars from an automobile lot in Cut Off. The suspects were allegedly trying to work together to get inside of a dealership to steal keys, which would allow them to drive off with a car.
