Swamp tour legend "Black" Guidry dies

Alvin “Kek Do” Charpentier, 84, a native and resident of Cut Off, La., died on Sunday, September 10, 2017. Mr. Charpentier began running a shrimp boat at the age of 15. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and also in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was captain of commercial shrimp boats for over 45 years and a volunteer fireman at Belle Ami Fire Station, where he served as president. He enjoyed carpentry, jigsaw puzzles and origami and was an avid Saints and LSU fan. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beatrice Vegas Charpentier; daughters, Susan (Kirk) Kilgen and Tammy Charpentier; brothers, Steven (Anna) and Lawrence (Rose) Charpentier; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial is at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Cut Off. (Falgout)
