Dear Editor,

Ten years ago I decided to challenge LSU fans. As an avid Ole Miss fan, challenging LSU fans is in my blood. So I decided to make the challenge about just that, blood. This time, however, would bring awareness to the importance of blood donation and increase the number of blood donors. Hence the Ron Brooks blood drive was born.

Over the past 10 years, this blood drive has brought over 6000 donated pints to Terrebonne General Medical Center’s Blood Donor Center. In addition to the community support, I pledge to donate $1.00 to The Foundation for TGMC for each pint of blood donated. Through this, we can support the mission of The Foundation for TGMC in giving to the community for the sole purpose of promoting, developing, and expanding the services, functions, purpose, and mission of TGMC in providing exceptional healthcare with compassion.

Blood donations are a crucial part of saving lives within our community. Someone needs blood every two seconds. It takes about 40 minutes to donate one pint that can save up to three lives.

This year, I challenge you, LSU fans, to help us reach a goal of 1,000 pints in ten weeks. With every donation, you’re eligible for a chance to win a Kindle, Les Miles or Manning Family signed football or even a trip for two to New York! So, are you up to the challenge? Geaux Tigers!
