Two men are arrested and charged with murder in a shooting that occurred yesterday on the 900 Block of Ridgefield Road, which killed a 30-year-old man.

Yesterday at approximately 3 p.m., TPD got a call regarding shots being fired in the 900 block of Ridgefield Road in Thibodaux.

When authorities arrived, they found several people help ing a male who had been shot.

That victim, identified as Chansie White, 30, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead with injuries sustained in the incident.

Authorities opened an investigation and determined that a white crown Victoria driven by Dontrell Bryant Jr., 19, of Thibodaux, pulled off on Ridgefield Road in the 900 block. A passenger in the vehicle was Tremell Batiste, 21, of Napoleonville.

Authorities said that the victim was on foot and lived in the area. He allegedly got into the back seat. Authorities learned that he intended to sell drugs to the suspects.

Shortly after getting into the back of the vehicle, authorities said White was shot by Batiste.

He then exited the vehicle and ran across the street to where he was when police arrived.

The suspects then fled the scene in the vehicle.

Authorities found the suspect’s vehicle at Waverly Apartments around midnight, locating Bryant in one of the apartments, taking him into custody.

This morning around 7 a.m., authorities checked a location on La. Highway 400 in Assumption Parish where Batiste was rumored to be staying.

Authorities found the suspect behind a residence where he took of running. He was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit and taken into custody.

Both suspects are charged with second-degree murder and are held on a $1 million bond.

Thibodaux Police Chief Bryan Zeringue said he thanked his officers and the public for a quick investigation in the murder.

“We had the suspect’s vehicle and one of the suspects within the first 10 hours and the second suspect within 16 hours,” Zeringue said. “We were determined to follow every lead, every bit of information until the suspects were caught.”

Tremell Batiste (left) and Dontrell Bryant Jr. are both charged with murder after a shooting in Thibodaux last week, which killed a 30-year-old man. Authorities said the shooting was sparked after a drug deal went bad. Both men were taken into custody within 16 hours of the shooting, which made Thibodaux Police Chief Bryan Zeringue happy.
