Teens arrested after allegedly spraying woman with pepper spray; then taking her car

Two Lafourche Parish teenagers have been charged with armed robbery after they allegedly sprayed a woman with pepper spray, then stole her vehicle in the parking lot of a Raceland-area discount store.

At around 9:45 p.m. on Monday night, deputies received a call in reference to a robbery in Raceland.

When on the scene, authorities learned that a woman was approached by two male subjects after she exited the store, then entered her vehicle.

Authorities said one of the subjects motioned for the woman to roll down her window, and when she did, he pepper sprayed her in the face.

A struggle ensued, and the men allegedly pulled the woman out of the vehicle, then drove away from the scene in it.

About four hours later, authorities found the vehicle abandoned on Recreation Drive in Raceland.

Through investigation, authorities developed suspects in the case – one a 15-year-old juvenile male and the other Kaylum Thompkins, 17, of Raceland.

Authorities said they learned that the two teens were seen riding in a vehicle that matched the description of the one that was taken.

Through investigation, authorities also were able to conclude that it was the juvenile who allegedly used the pepper spray in the incident.

Deputies made contact with both suspects on Tuesday afternoon and brought them in for questioning.

Following questioning, the 15-year-old was charged with armed robbery and placed in the Lafourche Parish Juvenile Justice Facility.

Thompkins was charged with illegal possession of stolen things, possession of marijuana and indecent exposure, due to a parish ordinance for saggy pants.

He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux on a $10,350 bond.

LPSO says the investigation into this incident is continuing, and detectives believe additional charges could be forthcoming.
