Reward offered for firearms theft in Raceland

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced this week that a reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for the theft of 12 firearms from a property in Raceland.

On Sunday, detectives were called to Raceland after a victim reported that he returned to his property on La. Highway 182 and found that several firearms were missing.

In all, the victim said nine handguns and three shotguns were stolen from the building. Detectives said it’s likely that the theft occurred sometime in the past two weeks.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433. Tipsters can remain anonymous and any information that leads to an arrest may make one eligible for a $1,000 reward.

Anonymous tip leads to arrest of 2 fugitives in Lafourche

A couple wanted suspects were arrested this week in Lafourche Parish.

Sheriff Craig Webre said this week that deputies with the parish’s Problem-Oriented-Policing (POP) Squad were attempting to locate Omri Rabon, 25, of Galliano, with the assistance of K-9 deputies.

Rabon was wanted in connection with a vehicle burglary in late February in Golden Meadow.

Golden Meadow Police said a woman’s purse was stolen in the incident and fraudulent charges were then allegedly made on her credit card.

Authorities started an investigation into the case, which netted the arrest of Brent Terrebonne, 46, of Golden Meadow and Geoffrey Galliano, 31, of Larose.

Terrebonne was charged with simple burglary and 10 counts of unauthorized use of an access card.

Galliano was charged with simple burglary of a motor vehicle.

Through continued investigation, authorities also identified Rabon as a third suspect in the case, and authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Through the help of an anonymous tip, the suspect was taken into custody this week.

Deputies proceeded to a residence on West 152nd Street in Galliano, where they believed Rabon to be, per the tipster.

While there, authorities said they found Rabon hiding in a closet, taking him into immediate custody without incident.

Authorities also said they located Janie Cheramie, 33, of Cut Off, on the scene. She was allegedly hiding in the attic of the residence at the time the authorities arrived. She was taken into custody, as well, because of an active warrant for a probation violation.

Through investigation and questioning of Rabon, authorities were also able to link the suspect to a residential burglary which was reported last Monday at a residence on West Main Street in Cut Off.

During questioning, authorities said Rabon started to shake. He then allegedly told authorities that he swallowed a bag of suspected methamphetamine prior to his arrest.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital by ambulance where he remains in stable condition at press-time, according to a news release issued by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Upon his relese from the hospital, the suspect will be booked in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on charges of simple burglary of an immovable structure, simple burglary of a motor vehicle and five counts of unauthorized use of an access card.

Detectives in the case said that the investigation into Rabon continues. They said that the suspect may face more charges as information comes to light.

Suspect arrested on multiple charges

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter announced over the weekend that a 24-year-old Houma man was taken into custody on multiple charges and an outstanding warrant.

On March 9, TPSO deputies arrested Quintin Vanburen, of 616 Columbus St., charging him with aggravated battery, simple robbery and failure to appear.

Vanburen has been wanted by authorities for several weeks, stemming from his alleged role in an incident which took place on Monarch Drive in Houma on Feb. 13.

During that incident, authorities said he took a cell phone from a female. When the woman attempted to take the cell phone back, authorities said Vanburen pulled out a small knife and cut the woman, giving her non-life threatening injuries.

Vanburen allegedly fled the scene prior to the arrival of the TPSO, which led to warrants being filed for his arrest.

He was featured in the parish’s ‘Sought By Authorities’ list on February 18, which led to several tips from the public about his possible whereabouts and his eventual arrest.

Authorities said the failure to appear warrant stems from a 2016 arrest for possession of marijuana.

Thibodaux man still missing

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said authorities still have not found a 74-year-old man who has been missing since March 3.

Authorities said that Ronald Blanchard was fishing at his camp on March 3. He was supposed to visit family later that night, but never turned up. His boat was later found, but he wasn’t in it.
