Victim shot at Mardi Gras Day at Houma-area McDonald’s

A 28-year-old man was shot on Mardi Gras Day at a Houma McDonald’s.

Terrebonne Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said authorities were called to the fast food restaurant, located at 1709 Martin Luther King Boulevard at around 6:30 p.m. in reference to gunshots at the restaurant.

When deputies arrived, no one was able to give a description of what happened. The store manager only said that a gunshot was heard, but no visible damage was done to the restaurant or surrounding property.

About 15 minutes after responding to the scene, TPSO got a call that a gunshot victim had arrived at Terrebonne General.

Authorities then reported to the hospital and discovered that a 28-year-old victim from Thibodaux had been shot in the thigh.

He allegedly told authorities that he walked out of the McDonald’s and saw a group of black males in the parking lot. He then said he heard a gunshot, but didn’t see the shooter.

He told authorities that someone put him in a vehicle and drove him to the hospital, dropping him off there.

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call TPSO at (985) 876-2500.

Attempt to race cop nets stop, drug arrest

A Houma suspect allegedly attempted to race a police car at a traffic light.

After being pulled over, authorities found drugs and a loaded weapon in the vehicle.

On Feb. 26 at around 1 a.m., an unmarked Houma Police Department vehicle was stopped at a redlight near the intersection of Prospect and Main Street.

While the officer waited for the light to turn green, a 2004 Toyota Corolla pulled alongside the police car.

Authorities said when the light turned green, the vehicle sped off at a high rate of speed, as if the cars would be racing, which caused officers to conduct a traffic stop.

During the stop, HPD officers identified the driver as Josh Haught, 24, and officers said they detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Officers then searched the vehicle and they located 17 grams of marijuana, Xanax tablets, methamphetamine, a loaded .22-caliber magnum revolver and a digital scale for weighing narcotics.

Haught was arrested without incident and is charged with excessive acceleration, no driver’s license, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic abuse battery, possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dan gerous substance (marijuana), possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine), possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (Xanax), possession of drug paraphernalia and also an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.

Search continues for missing boater

Water patrol officers from Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes were searching waters near Pointe-aux-Chenes early this week for signs of a missing Thibodaux man whose boat was found Friday night.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said 74-year-old Ronald Blanchard of Thibodaux was at his fishing camp and was scheduled to meet a family member Friday night at the Pointeaux-Chenes Marina, but never showed up.

Extortion alleged in sex video scheme

A 20-year-old Gibson man is being held at the Terrebonne Parish jail in connection with allegations that he threatened to post pictures of himself and his ex-girlfriend having sexual relations on the internet if she did not continue the relationship.

Tristen Trimaine Thomas of 5676 North Bayou Black Drive is being held in lieu of a $5,000 bond, charged with extortion.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said that on March 1 deputies were contacted by a 19-year-old woman who “stated that she was being threatened by her ex-boyfriend to have sex.”

The teen told officers that sexual relations between her and the boyfriend were recorded with consent. Then the relationship ended.

“The victim stated that the suspect contacted her through social media and threatened to post the video of them having sex on a social media website,” a statement from Larpenter’s office reads. “The victim stated that this was not the first time that this occurred. She said that she was afraid that he would post the video therefore she went and had sex with him.”

Fugitives arrested in Lafourche

Two men from central Lafourche Parish were arrested for outstanding warrants following a traffic stop last Friday, along with other charges.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre and Lockport Chief of Police Warren Vedros said Rocky Pertuit, 31, of Lockport and Stephen Armand II, 38, of Raceland were traveling in an auto in the Lockport area.

Officers recognized Pertuit, and knew he had an outstanding warrant for contempt of court. The vehicle was stopped on 10th Street.

“After giving several verbal commands to exit the vehicle, Pertuit finally complied, but he began forcefully resisting deputies before he was taken into custody,”a joint statement from the two departments reads. “He admitted to having narcotics in his possession, and deputies discovered three small bags containing suspected methamphetamine on his person. He was also found to be driving under suspension.”

Officers of the Lockport Police Department arrived on scene to assist as deputies attempted to identify the two passengers inside the vehicle. One of the passengers gave a false name but was identified as Armand II, and he was taken into custody due to having an active warrant for Contempt of Court. While in handcuffs, at one point, Armand attempted to flee the area on foot, but officers caught up to him after a short distance, and he was placed into the back of a patrol unit, Vedros and Webre said. The two were taken to the Laforuche Jail.

Pertuit was additionally charged with Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence, Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, and driving under suspension. His bond is set at $70,500. Armand was additionally charged with Simple Escape and Resisting an Officer. His bond is set at $6,000, and he has been ordered to pay $619.50 in fines and costs per the warrant.
