Benjamin Leighton Legendre, Sr., 73, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died on Wednesday, July 5, 2017.


Mr. Legendre retired from the USDA Agricultural Research Service after more than 30 years before working at the LSU AgCenter’s Sugarcane Research Center and the Audubon Sugar Institute. He loved singing, LSU, giving tours of Lafourche Sugars and traveling. He also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his children, Lisa (Jack) Davies, Benjamin (Lisa) Legendre Jr., Nicole (James) Flanagan and Stephanie (Ross) Pertuit; brother, Gustave (Clair) Legendre; sisters, Patricia (Jim) O’Grady, Irene Legendre and Eloise (Thad) Toups; fiancee, Annrose Guarino; and 10 grandchildren.

Burial is at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Cemetery in Thibodaux.
