The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has determined that the death of a 69-year-old Galliano man was self-inflicted.

The body of Terry Angelle was found in the bayou on July 22, 2018. Authorities have investigated the case for the past several days, but announced on Thursday that no signs of foul play were found in the investigation.

At around 2 p.m. on Sunday, a concerned citizen reported that a body was floating in the bayou near West 188th Street in Galliano. A local firefighter arrived on the scene and pulled the body to the shore. Authorities later identified him as Terry Angelle, 69, of Galliano.

Deputies on scene found Angelle’s arms and legs were bound with rope at the time he was pulled to shore. Authorities believed he tightened the slip knots himself.

The victim’s bike was also found on a dock on the west side of the bayou about 200 yards from where the body was found. A pair of scissors was also found on the ground near the bike and authorities believe Angelle used the scissors to cut the rope.

Authorities believe the victim had been in the bayou for several days before being found on Sunday.

The victim had several items in his pockets including a cell phone, his wallet and cash. Through interviews with family and friends, detectives have found no potential motive for a murder. Detectives also learned that Angelle had been admitted to a hospital recently for depression, but he either refused or did not respond to treatment.

An autopsy was conducted in Jefferson Parish on July 23 and authorities said preliminary reports revealed nothing contrary to the investigation.
